Johnny Micheal Spann Memorial Endowed Scholarship
“I believe in the meaning of honor and integrity. I am an action person who feels personally responsible for making any changes in this world that are in my power…because if I don’t, no one else will.”
-AU alumnus Mike Spann
On November 25, 2001, America lost her first patriot in the War on Terror. Mike Spann died while suppressing a prison rebellion in the Qala Jangi prison in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Spann graduated from Auburn in 1992 with a degree in law enforcement. He spent seven years with the Marines before joining the CIA in 1999. At the time of his death, he was interrogating prisoners to aid in the search for Osama bin Laden. Mike Spann loved his country, and sacrificed everything to keep America safe.
The Johnny Micheal Spann Memorial Scholarship is a four-year scholarship open to the children of United States service personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
