Reggie and Sherri Spivey

Reggie and Sherri Spivey met at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Reggie grew up in Abbeville, Alabama and Sherri grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sherri graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Interior Design. Reggie graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (1987) and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (1994). They have been happily married since 1990 and they have one son, James Peyton Spivey, who graduated from Auburn University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering degree.

Sherri has enjoyed a long career designing interiors for homes in Albuquerque, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Huntsville. She is also a very accomplished long-arm machine quilter and has had her work published in many national magazines. Reggie spent the majority of his career working on the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Space Launch System programs at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He advanced from thermal analyst to project manager to program manager, then director and he is currently the Senior Director and Operations Manager of the Space Systems Division of Teledyne Brown Engineering. In this role, he is responsible for all of Teledyne’s Space related business and he leads a group of over 500 technicians, scientists, and engineers developing, testing, integrating, and operating hardware and software for NASA’s Space Launch System, Space Station, and Deep Space Gateway. His many awards include AIAA Aerospace Engineer of the Year (2003), NASA Silver Snoopy Award (2005), NASA Space Flight Awareness Team Award (2011), and NASA Silver Achievement Medal (2013). Reggie also serves on the External Advisory Board for Auburn’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Impact

Sherri and Reggie were introduced to the I’m 3rd principle when their son attended Kanakuk Camps in Branson, MO. “I’m third” is an approach to living where “God is First, Others are Second, and I’m Third.” Sherri and Reggie take every opportunity to live out this principle in their lives. Their hope is that all future recipients of this scholarship will learn the I’m Third Principal and use it to bless other students as they enjoy their time at Auburn University.
