W. James Samford, Jr. '72 Annual Scholarship

Preference given to juniors who have completed at least 61 but not more than 89 semester hours. A student’s academic performance will be reviewed, but academic achievement is not the only criterion for consideration. The ideal recipient will also have broad interests as demonstrated by participation in philanthropic acts and leadership roles impacting other individuals within the University, community, or beyond.

W. James Samford, Jr. was a man devoted to public service, private philanthropy, and the joys of deep friendship and family connection. His robust energy for living life to the fullest took him from his storied Alabama roots to the upper branches of Washington society and ultimately back again to the campus of his beloved Auburn University, where he served as president pro tem on the Board of Trustees. The foundation of Jimmy Samford’s life was generosity, and generosity is also his legacy.
